Advantech has introduced the FWA-3240 1U network appliance, claimed to be the first featuring the Intel EP80579 integrated processor system-on-a-chip (SOC).
The appliance delivers more performance at lower cost with power savings. It uses the SOC, which combines memory and I/O controller hub functionality with a CPU core based on Pentium M architecture and QuickAssist technology.
The device is 45% smaller than a traditional 4-chip Pentium M architecture-based platform, due to the integrated single-chip design. It employs smart fan control to monitor cooling and reduce fan noise.
Power consumption is 11<0x007E>21 W, a reduction of up to 20%, while throughput is increased up to eight times.
