Diamond Systems has announced the Janus MM PC/104 expansion module that incorporates dual CAN bus interfaces and optional GPS and/or wireless modem capability on a single board.

Using only a single 'slot' in a PC/104 stack, it enables the creation of compact vehicle-based applications that can communicate on the vehicle network, determine the vehicle's location and exchange information with a central location.

These applications can be found in trucks, buses, trains, delivery vehicles, police cars, ambulances and fire trucks.

The module can be used with a Prometheus, Athena, Hercules, Morpheus or Poseidon CPU card or any of the dozens of PC/104 expandable single board computers in PC/104, EBX, EPIC or other form factors.

The board provides two CAN interfaces through two Philips SJA1000T CAN controllers. A dual UART on the module interfaces to two optional serial modules.

One module can be either an 8- or 12-channel Trimble Navigation GPS receiver (Lassen SKII GPS or Lassen iQ GPS). The second module can be a MultiTech GSM/GPRS or CDMA wireless communication module (either SocketModem GSM/GPRS or SocketModem CDMA).
